Where to begin
Jo and I (Jac) have been working on Soksan behind the seams, I mean scenes, for quite some time now. It started as a discussion about making dresses as a business. Loose ideas threaded together, and we eventually had the fabric of a socially beneficial concept. This was an important consideration. We saw no other point in producing clothing if it not only clothed people, or women in the case of Soksan...but it also had to give back to basic humanity. In a world that is increasingly becoming more divided between the haves and the have nots, we see the only way forward is to help lift people out of poverty. The best way to do this is to provide employment. The flow-on effects of work are not insubstantial. Not only does it help an individual and family financially, but it also helps with their self-worth.
Living in Thailand, I travel a little in the region. It was on a trip to Siem Reap some time ago that sparked the flicker that became the Soksan label. Soksan is a beautiful beach in Cambodia by the way...which I’m yet to visit.
Our journey, though it feels we have done so much, is really just beginning. As we launch our first selection of summer dresses. Our team in Siem Reap is currently sewing our next release, and the weavers are weaving for future releases. We hope to keep this momentum going.
We hope you consider our clothes when you are planning your wardrobe. Traveling a lot and living in a very hot and humid climate, I can vouch for their versatility and comfort.
Please feel free to send any questions our way via firstname.lastname@example.org, our Facebook page @soksanthreads, and hope to see you on Instagram in our dresses too!
